What is a hand-drawn story map?
A hand-drawn story map is a visual representation that outlines the key elements and sequence of a narrative. By illustrating characters, settings, and pivotal events, it provides a clear overview of the story’s structure, aiding in both comprehension and planning. This technique is particularly useful in educational settings, like in the case of the historical building of the olive oil mill, where visitors are guided through the process.
For creators, crafting a hand-drawn story map can serve as a preliminary step in the creative process, allowing for organic development and visualization of the narrative’s flow. For me, sketching on site (plein air) provided detail and helped to shape the narrative.
Whether used for teaching, planning, or creative exploration, hand-drawn story maps are versatile tools that bring stories to life through visual storytelling.
